Dear Supporter,

Last year progress was made to reform Wisconsin's drunk driving law. More action is needed to save lives, protect the rights of victims and eliminate drunk driving.

Please click here to urge your Representatives to support AB 547 legalizing sobriety checkpoints and making 1st drunk driving offense a misdemeanor.

AB 547 is in the Assembly Committee on Criminal Justice. MADD has been informed Committee Chairman Robert Turner is refusing to even allow a hearing on this lifesaving legislation.

Please call Chairman Turner to urge him to allow a public hearing on AB 547 at (608) 266-0731.

The Centers for Disease Control found that when sobriety checkpoints took place alcohol-related crashes and fatalities decreased by more than 20 percent. Making a first drunk driving offense a misdemeanor is a matter of lawmakers recognizing that drunk driving at .08 BAC or above is a violent crime and not just a traffic citation. Currently, 49 states currently recognize a first offense of drunk driving as a misdemeanor and not a traffic ticket.

Please take action today by following this link to urge your representative to support this measure which will save lives in Wisconsin.

With your continued efforts, lives can be saved in Wisconsin.

Sincerely,

Laura Dean-Mooney
National President
