Work Group meeting was held at the Capitol
On May 11, 2009, another work group meeting was held at the Capitol. Many legislators were present as well as DOT, DMV, WI Assn. of Municipalities, WI Assn. of D.A.'s, the WI Courts, the AWARE coalition, and others.
Criminalizing the 1st OWI offense was the only issue on the agenda. Funding of this change, as well as the fiscal implications of all changes in this comprehensive package, remains a challenge.
Unlike most work group meetings of the past 9 months, this meeting was filled with backpedaling, defending turf and adversarial resistance to fundamental changes.
