WORK GROUP MEETS IN MADISON TO FURTHER DISCUSSION OF REFORMING OWI LAWS

The OWI working group, chaired by Representative Peggy Krusick, met in Madison on Friday, 1/30/09. The governmental agencies, advocacy groups, health initiatives, law enforcement agencies, court representatives, assembly and senate members and others present, have reached consensus about ignition interlock devices, to lifting the prohibition to ban sobriety checkpoints and the option to implement them, as well as criminalizing the 1st OWI offense. Funding these new laws remains challenging.

The next work group meeting is scheduled in Madison for Friday, February 20, at noon. Draft legislation will be presented to the group and vetted by the group.
