New Web Site To Fight Drunk Driving

OCONOMOWOC - The family of a woman killed by a drunk driver continues to take steps to assure it doesn't happen again.

Jennifer Bukosky, her unborn child and her 10-year-old daughter died in the crash back in April.

The man charged with killing Jennifer Bukosky is accused of being high on prescription drugs when he crashed.

Now, her family has set up a Web site, www.jenniferbukosky.com. The site has a link where people can appeal to their legislatures to toughen laws against drunk driving.

Judy Jenkins hopes everyone will be motivated to check out her new Web site named after her daughter Jennifer Bukosky.

"We wanted to call attention to Wisconsin's OWI laws which are pathetically weak," said Jenkins.

Weak laws that may have played a role in her daughter's death.

The accused driver, Mark Benson, was about to go to jail for a third drunk driving conviction when prosecutors say he slammed into Bukosky's car high on drugs.

Judy and her husband Paul are asking people to sign a petition that will force lawmakers to get tough with all drunk drivers.

"It is alarming out there," said Paul Jenkins. "I think it goes to the culture of the state of Wisconsin."

Alarming when you look at the percentages of OWI tickets that went to repeat offenders last year: 33 percent in Milwaukee County, 38 percent in Waukesha County, 39 percent in Washington County and 43 percent in Ozaukee County.

"It's scary to go out in your car anymore," said Jenkins. "The families of Wisconsin should be somewhat afraid. There are a lot of people out there that are driving while impaired."

Almost 40,000 people got busted for driving drunk in Wisconsin last year. Some 39 percent of them were repeat offenders.
