Benson pleads not guilty on bail-jumping charge

Waukesha - A man charged with killing two people and an unborn baby last year in a traffic collision pleaded not guilty Friday to jumping bail.

Mark M. Benson, 56, of Summit is accused of violating the conditions of his bail in March by keeping firearms in his home and accepting delivery of prescription drugs while awaiting trial on the homicide charges.

Prosecutors say Benson was under the influence of prescription drugs when he was involved in the April 2008 traffic collision that killed Jennifer Bukosky, 39, of the Town of Oconomowoc; her 10-year-old daughter, Courtney Bella; and an unborn baby.

No trial date has been set in the bail-jumping case, but a judge Friday set a June 10 hearing on a prosecutor's request that Benson's $500,000 bail be forfeited.

A lawyer representing Benson's mother and stepfather - who posted the bail - asked Waukesha County Circuit Judge J. Mac Davis for time to prepare arguments against ordering the bail forfeited.

Benson remains in the Waukesha County Jail on $1 million bail, with a July trial scheduled on charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

Bukosky was an assistant principal at Oconomowoc High School.
